Raven is a wandering Shaman of earth and sky. Though he conducts ceremonies and renders aid generously, subtle danger surrounds the man's relentless pursuit of mystic lore. His ministry's long-term plans are as inscrutable and ominous as the creature for which he is named. Far less mysterious, everyone knows, are the disciples of a great medicine man, weapons held out before them, thunderclouds at their backs, and the ground rumbling angrily at the impudence of their enemies.
Playing as Raven Edit
Raven's portrait may be selected for a custom Wizard when starting a new game at any Difficulty setting above "Intro" in the official game, or respectively "Easy" in the unoficial patches. Selecting either his default profile or his portrait prevents him from being encountered as an opposing Wizard.
Played on his default spec, Raven can rapidly uncover the map with his Nature assets and make informed early decisions on how to proceed. The Wizard compensates for his lack of Retorts with greater early spell knowledge, Spell Casting Skill, and dual elemental attunement, which could hasten his claiming Sorcery- and Nature Nodes. Raven is deep enough in these Realms to virtually guarantee a superb selection of Unit Enchantments and/or Summoning Spells in later stages, meaning that if he can just hang on long enough, he can produce a few fast, devastating units and sweep the competition.
Raven as an Opponent Edit
If not chosen, Raven may appear randomly among the computer-controlled opponent Wizards. Their finalized Spellbook and Retort picks strongly influence these Wizards' die rolls for AI Personality and Objective. At the "Normal" Difficulty setting and above, there is a 20% chance of either his Sorcery or Nature aspects rolling up into a single color. Taking this into account, Raven's typical traits are predicted below.
Higher Difficulties subject a Wizard's default profile to increasingly arbitrary adjustments, including exposure to random Realms and skills. At the "Impossible" setting, be prepared for anything.
Starting Spells Edit
At the start of the game, a non-customized Raven knows all spells specified in the table below. The known spells of a randomly generated opposing Raven depend entirely on the type and quantity of Spellbooks. For more information see the Wizard article. How many spells are researchable throughout the game depends on this as well.
